Subtraction Bookmark -2
This resource (subtraction -2) is a handy bookmark size to keep in a maths book/copy to remind pupils of the set of tables that they are learning in any particular week. There are two bookmarks on a page. If you find that the bookmark is still too large, set your printer options to print two…

Mentimeter
Mentimeter is a website used for polling your pupils or for getting feedback from them. I found out about this website from Richard Byrne of the Free Tech 4 Teachers website. It’s a really easy audience response website and I’ve used this site with my 1st Class pupils with no difficulties. I also demonstrated the website to the CESIMeet in Thurles last weekend and people seemed to like its simplicity and ease of use. read more…
From Teaching Space to Learning Space

Last weekend, I attended the very successful ICT in Education Conference in LIT Tipperary, which had as its theme “Learning Spaces“. The Keynote (if you could call it that, as it was the most “unKeynote” speech most participants had seen) was delivered (perhaps facilitated would be a better word) by Ira Socol and Pam Moran. Ira teaches in Michigan State University and Pam is Superintendent of Albemarle County Public Schools, Virginia, USA. read more…
QR Codes in the Classroom

I gave a presentation/workshop at the ICT in Education Conference in LIT Tipperary in Thurles yesterday on the topic of QR Codes in the classroom. The aim of the presentation/workshop was to show how easy it is to create QR Codes and how they can be used in the classroom to enhance teaching and learning. I demonstrated examples of doing an online spelling test using QR Codes, a matching vocabulary game read more…

B’fhéidir go bhfuil cuid den acmhainn seo “as dáta”, ach bain úsáid as in aon slí más mian leat. read more…
Topicbox
Topicbox is an English-based website which has been around for six years, slightly longer than Seomra Ranga. However, I only recently became aware of the site through Twitter. The site provides links to free resources on the internet across a wide variety of curricular areas. Although it is based on the UK curriculum, there are many parallels with the Irish curriculum and I’m sure that many Irish teachers would find resources that are equally suitable for their classroom. read more…
Induction to be a Requirement for Teaching Council Registration
Last week the Teaching Council announced that participation in a programme of induction workshops is to become a requirement for registration for all NQTs in Ireland, primary and post-primary (including VEC), who are registered on or after 2 July 2012. Previously, participation in this programme of induction had been voluntary, but the Council felt that, following broad consultation, there was widespread support for a programme of induction to meet the needs of the NQT during the transition to teaching as a career. read more…
New Director Appointed to Teaching Council
The Teaching Council, the regulatory body for teaching in Ireland, has announced the appointment of Tomás Ó Ruairc as Council Director. Mr Ó Ruairc will assume the role with effect from Monday next, 14 May. Mr Ó Ruairc will move to the Teaching Council from a senior position in the Department of Arts, Heritage and Gaeltacht. Prior to that, he was Deputy CEO and Director of Education Services in Foras na Gaeilge. He has considerable experience in the field of education, having served as a member of the NCCA read more…
