Hallowe’en Creatures Bookmarks
This is a handy, bookmark-sized, resource for pupils who are doing some literacy work on the theme of Hallowe’en in the classroom. It gives a list of Hallowe’en creatures, which is not meant to be an exhaustive list, and could be used for oral language or written work, especially creative writing.
There are two bookmarks per page. If you find that the bookmarks are too large, set your printer preferences to print two to a page. These could be laminated and kept from year to year.

Guided Access Function on iOS
I was only recently made aware of the Guided Access function within the iOS settings on iPhone/iPod and iPad. This function allows the parent/teacher to lock the device on a single app and allows you to control which functions are available. We have recently begun to make effective use of this function on our iPads in class, where pupils will switch from app to app at a moments notice. read more…
Sort it Out App

In each section of the app, the pupil is presented with a range of objects at the bottom of the screen. They have to drag and drop the objects into one of three areas at the top of the screen. read more…
Guest Post: Twitter Exit Tickets in the Classroom
Like many teachers, I kept one eye on Pinterest over the summer months for new ideas for my classroom. One that kept grabbing my attention was that of the ‘exit ticket’. It appeared in many formats, such as post-it notes and grids, but the one I decided to use was the Twitter format. Over the past eighteen months, I’ve been studying Assessment for Learning in St Patrick’s College, Drumcondra and my favourite formative assessment methods are similar to Twitter read more…

Hue Webcam Competition
Hue HD Webcam is a neat webcam that can be plugged straight into a USB port on your PC/Laptop. Alternatively, it can be inserted into a freestanding base which can then be plugged into your PC/Laptop via USB. Many schools are beginning to use this webcam as a document camera/visualiser. Given its retail price (€35.94), this should prove to be a popular alternative to more expensive visualisers for cash-strapped schools. read more…

Signs of Autumn 2013 Twitter Project #anfomhar
The first week of October saw us take part in our second “Signs of Autumn” Twitter Project (#anfomhar). We’ve already done successful projects on the Signs of Spring and Signs of Autumn last year so this was building on that success. This was a hastily organised project, but it turned out to be another great success. Tweets were gathered together by everyone using the project hashtag #anfomhar read more…
