To celebrate the first week of Seachtain na Gaeilge, Cló Iar-Chonnacht have kindly sponsored five books as Gaeilge as prizes for a competition on the site. Seachtain na Gaeilge 2013
Tá Seachtain na Gaeilge 2013 beagnach linn agus tá súil agam go bhfuil múinteoirí bunscoile ag déanamh pleanáil chun imeachtaí Ghaeilge a eagrú sa seomra ranga i rith na seachtaine. (b’fhéidir go mbeadh sé níos fearr “Coicís na Gaeilge” a chur air mar tá sé ar siúl ar feadh an coicís Márta 4 – 17.) Má tá leideanna ag taisteáil uait chun an Ghaeilge a spreagadh sa seomra ranga, tá neart acmhainní ar an suíomh do Sheachtain na Gaeilge: read more…
Mamma Mia as Gaeilge
Seo na focail agus an fís-scannán don amhrán “Mamma Mia”. Is dócha go bhfuil an fonn ar eolas ag na daltaí sna hardranganna ón scannán “Mamma Mia””. Mar sin, b’fhéidir go dtaitneoidh sé leis na daltaí agus beidh suim acu chun é a fhoghlaim. Bheadh sé an-oiriúnach do Sheachtain na Gaeilge freisin.
Communion Day on RTE1
Communion Day is a new two-part documentary commencing on RTE1 on Monday March 4th at 9.35pm. The two programmes follow eight very different families, four on each night, as they journey towards the big day. Among the eight participants in the documentaries, there’s the story of Laoise from Cork who has Spina Bifida, Lorraine from Limerick/Cameroon whose younger sister will be christened on the same day and Ally from Offaly who is coeliac. read more…
40 Technologies for the Classroom
This was my presentation delivered at the Computers in Education Society of Ireland (CESI) annual conference on February 23rd, 2013. As the society was celebrating its 40th birthday, I decided to share 40 different technologies that can be used in the classroom. The presentation is a mixture of recommendations of websites, apps and technologies. It was difficult deciding which technologies to include and which to exclude. Suffice it to say, this is just a snapshot in time and if you ask me to carry out the same exercise in a few months time, the list could be totally changed. read more…
Signs of Spring Twitter Project
It’s time for another Twitter project to get your class organised to look about and observe the signs of Spring in their environment. We started off these projects last year with a Signs of Spring and Signs of Autumn Twitter project. It was felt that we did the Signs of Spring project a little too early last year in early February, so we decided to do it about a month later this year in the hope that pupils might be able to see more definitive signs of Spring around them. read more…

Edcanvas
Edcanvas is a website which I only recently came across. It is used to help students and teachers organise and present online content in one place. So, for example, let’s presume that you are starting a new topic or project in class and you are doing some research to gather your resources for the topic. Normally, your resources for the topic may be spread across various sources. You may have a Powerpoint in Dropbox, a Word file on your desktop, read more…
Rabhlaí Rabhlaí Stage Show
“Rabhlaí Rabhlaí“ is a collection of 31 traditional poems and rhymes “as Gaeilge”, a copy of which should be in every primary school in the country. It is especially suitable to be used in junior classes. Pupils in these classes will undoubtedly find the rhymes engaging and they will certainly motivate them to learn and have fun with rhymes as Gaeilge.
For any teachers in the Sligo region, I’m directing a stage version of the book for the Hawk’s Well Theatre. Pupils from various schools in Sligo will be taking part in the production. The production is part of the first Sligo Children’s Book Festival read more…
Children’s Learning Festival
I just recently came across this great idea from Navan Education Centre where they are organising what they call a “Children’s Learning Festival” (Féile Léinn na nÓg). The Centre is inviting all primary and post primary schools in Counties Meath, Louth and Cavan to participate in the Children’s Learning Festival as a part of its 40th anniversary celebrations. The Learning Festival will take place on Saturday 18th May. It will celebrate what the students have learned during the school year 2012 – 2013. read more…
