Peg Comprehension: The Very Hungry Caterpillar
This resource is aimed at junior/middle pupils or SEN pupils at the beginning of literacy work on comprehension. It is based on the picture book “The Very Hungry Caterpillar” by Eric Carle. Either the pupil reads the story themselves, or the teacher/SNA reads the story to the pupil.
Peg the Longest Time
This peg numeracy resource is aimed at pupils in middle/senior classes or SEN pupils. It is based on the pupil’s knowledge of units of time – hours, days, weeks, months, years, seasons etc. The pack contains 24 individual cards, four per A4 page. The pupil has to use a clothes peg to identify the longest unit of time from the three suggestions on the right hand side of each card.

This peg numeracy resource is aimed at pupils in middle/senior classes or SEN pupils. It is based on the pupil’s knowledge of units of time – hours, days, weeks, months, years, seasons etc. The pack contains 18 cards – on the left hand side of each card is a question based on a unit of time. The pupil has to use a clothes peg to identify on the right hand side of the card the correct answer.
Sentence Builder 13
These sentence builder activities are great for infant/junior pupils as well as pupils with learning difficulties or special educational needs. They help to develop vocabulary, sentence structure and left to right orientation. They feature five-word sentences with a “farmer”theme with a sentence structure “The farmer has a ….”.
Peg Grammar 01
This peg literacy resource is aimed at pupils in middle classes or SEN pupils. It is based on the identification of parts of grammar in a sentence – noun, verb, adjective, adverb. The pack contains 20 cards – on the left hand side of each card is a sentence with a word coloured red and underlined. The pupil has to use a clothes peg to identify on the right hand side of the card which part of grammar that word is.
Guest Post: Setting Up A School Library
There are a number of things to be considered when establishing a school library.
Function: Is the library just for lending or do you see it as a place for study and research? Are you considering teaching in the area? Are you incorporating the idea of the library as a maker space?
Location: Ideally, it should be in a central location that is accessible to all students and staff. Classroom libraries are OK if there is no other facility available but ideally try to earmark a space for the school library. read more…

This literacy resource focuses on positional language which can pose some difficulties for younger pupils and SEN pupils. This pack includes five worksheets based on fruit for pupils to practise these essential skills. The worksheets include language like first, last, after, under, above, to the right of, to the left of.
Apps for Pupils With Autism
Sue Fletcher-Watson is a developmental psychologist, working at the University of Edinburgh. She has a special interest in developmental disabilities, and autism in particular. Research and projects that she is involved with are featured on the DART (Development Autism Research Technology) website.
