Niamh Sharkey Appointed New Laureate na nÓg
Yesterday May 8th, President Michael D. Higgins announced the appointment of author and illustrator Niamh Sharkey as Ireland’s second Laureate na nÓg. Niamh commences her two-year term of office and succeeds Siobhán Parkinson, our inaugural Laureate na nÓg who has held the position for the past two years.

Megan and the Money Tree
Although published in 2011, I only recently came across Megan and the Money Tree in one of my local book stores. (Yes, I still buy real books!) In terms of structure, it is an unusual book, but it works very well. Written by Emma Kennedy, the personal finance correspondent with the Sunday Business Post, its stated aim is to “introduce children to basic financial concepts in an engaging manner, using language and ideas that make sense to younger readers”. read more…

To coincide with the publication on this website of the Study Guide for “The Butterfly Heart” by Paula Leyden, which has been nominated for the CBI Children’s Book of the Year 2012, the author and her publisher, Walker Books, have given us five signed copies of the book to give away on the site.
