Seomra Ranga has been successfully providing tried and tested resources for primary school classrooms since 2007. Since that time, the site has gradually built up a strong following amongst educators as a repository of quality teacher-created resources. The resources on the site, which support all areas of the curriculum, are arranged in accordance with the curricular provisions of the Irish primary school….


The Story of Ireland O’ Brien Press/Seomra Ranga Competition

To celebrate St. Patrick’s Day, the O’ Brien Press has kindly given us five copies of “The Story of Ireland” by Brendan O’ Brien as prizes for a website competition. The Story of Ireland begins “After the Ice” and lasts 9,000 years. It tells the story of the whole island and its people. The book’s 27 chapters chronicle invasions, wars, Christianity, famine and a divided island, mixed with tales of Celtic head hunters, mysterious stone tombs, the Vikings, the Black Death, life in castles, the Titanic tragedy, music, mobiles and computers. read more…

Interview With Harold Hislop, Chief Inspector DES (Part 2)

Dr. Harold Hislop, Chief Inspector

Dr. Harold Hislop is the Chief Inspector with the Department of Education and Skills (DES). Originally from Co. Cavan, he trained as a primary teacher in Church of Ireland College of Education (CICE). He taught in Whitechurch NS in Rathfarnham, where he later became principal. He gained a Ph.D. from Trinity College, Dublin (UCD) and in the mid-1990′s was seconded to the National Council for Curriculum and Assessment (NCCA). He subsequently joined the Inspectorate of the DES in 1998 and was appointed Chief Inspector in April 2010. read more…
