Seomra Ranga has been successfully providing tried and tested resources for primary school classrooms since 2007. Pádraig Pearse
Presentation on the life of one of the leaders of the Easter 1916 Rising, Pádraig Pearse, told through photographs and documents. The presentation details main events from his life including his childhood, his education, his employment as a teacher and barrister, his opening of St. Enda’s school, and culminating in his proclamamtion of the Republic at Easter 1916 and his eventual surrender and death. read more…

Ever think about doing some cooking with your pupils? Saucepan Kids is a new website that could give teachers lots of ideas for simple recipes that could easily be used for cooking lessons in school. The aim of the site is to get kids more involved in all aspects of food – growing, harvesting, preparing, cooking and eating – with a view towards developing a more varied appetite for the children. read more…
Free eBook: Pressure Points on Irish Families
It’s thanks again to Twitter (Mary Foskin AKA @m2thefizzle) that I became aware of this free ebook, Pressure Points on Irish Families, that is primarily aimed at families, but I’m sure many teachers would also welcome delving into. Written by Prof. Michael Fitzgerald and Maria Lawlor, the book aims to examine Irish children and adolescents whose minds may be under major stress.

Get Your Class Involved in Digital Art Week
Digital Art Week will take place next week, from 23rd – 27th April. The purpose of the week is to integrate the Visual Arts curriculum with technology and Social Media. During this week pupils will be given the opportunity to create pieces of art using technology – mobile technology, software or art websites. Rírá – Coimicí Gael
Rírá is a comic, completely “as Gaeilge” aimed at pupils in the 8-14 year old age range which I only recently became aware of. It’s a fledgling production published by a small part-time operation made up of comic artists and cartoonists around Ireland, with just three issues published so far. Set up by Aidan Courtney, who works as a freelance cartoonist, Rírá also serves as a platform for other Irish cartoonists to show off their work while combining this with our native language. read more…

Great Reaction to Filmstrips
There’s been a great reaction to the Filmstrips Project since I published the first of these resources last week. I thought many people may not have liked them because they may look a bit dated in places, but I’ve received very positive feedback through this site, on the Twitter page and on the Facebook page. Many teachers seem genuinely pleased to see that all of these resources are not lost to history and that they are being recycled and given a 21st century spin. read more…
