Welcome to Seomra Ranga, the Hub for Primary School Resources. For the overseas visitors “Seomra Ranga” means “classroom” in the Irish language.

Seomra Ranga has been successfully providing tried and tested resources for primary school classrooms since 2007. Since that time, the site has gradually built up a strong following amongst educators as a repository of quality teacher-created resources. The resources on the site, which support all areas of the curriculum, are arranged in accordance with the curricular provisions of the Irish primary school….

Rannta agus Amhráin as Gaeilge

Dánta / Amhráin

Táim ag iarraidh rannta, dánta agus amhráin as Gaeilge a chur le chéile le “Crowdsourcing”, chun tacaíocht a thabhairt do na téamaí éagsúla i gCuraclam na Gaeilge. Má tá dánta/amhráin/rannta agat a bhain tú úsáid astu agus a bhí úsáideach don téama, déan cliceáil ar an nasc thíos, agus fág an dán mar nóta ag bun an bhlagphost. Tá súil agam go n-éirí leis an “Crowdsourcing” seo mar tá a fhios agam go bhfuil neart dánta/rannta agus amhráin bailithe cheana féin ag bunmhúinteoirí na tíre.

Pangrams

Writing

Pangrams are sentences that contain all twenty-six letters of the alphabet at least once. A perfect pangram contains only twenty-six letters, which is quite difficult to achieve. Probably the best known pangram is the one used to illustrate type fonts: “The quick brown fox jumps over the lazy dog”. This is a handout with eighteen examples of pangrams found on the ‘net. I use these for handwriting practice.

Back to School Programming on RTÉ

As hundreds of thousands of children and teenagers across the country prepare to make their way back through the school gates, RTÉ will this week explore the subject of education in Ireland in BACK TO SCHOOL, a week-long season of programmes and features across RTÉ Television, Radio and Online. These will be of special interest to teachers, parents, pupils and the wider education community as the theme of education is put in the spotlight by our national broadcaster. There are three television documentaries on consecutive nights, starting on Sunday night with the one which will be of most interest to primary teachers, Primary Pressures, a “fly-on-the-wall” documentary in a DEIS primary school. The following are the programmes to keep an eye out for this week: read more…

Guest Post: On Starting School

I came across this blog post last week and was touched by it. I tweeted the link to it and lots of teachers seemed to share it. I think the reason that it touched a chord with teachers was that we get so caught up in making preparations for the return to school, that we sometimes forget how much of a change it is for both the parent and the child, especially when the child is starting school for the first time.  I think that it is also really interesting for teachers to see school from another perspective. It’s a great read! read more…

Word of the Day

Teachers all know how important it is to develop the oral and written language of pupils. This resource is a header to place in a prominent position in the classroom, under which can be recorded new or interesting words which are discovered during the day. These could be recorded in a copy or personal dictionary or the teacher could encourage pupils to use them in an oral sentence during the day.
