Nice Powerpoint presentation to help infant pupils with learning the numbers 1-5. It is really an activity that integrates other curricular strands also: it can be used for learning numbers in maths, oral language in English and oral language in Gaeilge.

Acmhainní don Ghaeilge ó Foinse

I’ve only recently become aware of some nice Gaeilge resources on the Foinse website. Foinse, the Irish language newspaper, has created a number of resources to support the teaching of Gaeilge in the primary school. They have resources to support almost every one of the ten themes in the Gaeilge curriculum. School Self-Evaluation

School Self-Evaluation (SSE) is something that we are going to hear a lot more about over the coming years as the process of schools evaluating their own policies and practices will become a core part of the planning process of the school. The Minister for Education and Skills, Ruairi Quinn, recently launched new school self-evaluation guidelines to support schools to evaluate their own work and to set targets to improve teaching and learning. The aim is to help to achieve the targets set out in the Programme for Government and in the National Literacy and Numeracy Strategy, launched by the Minister last year. Many thanks to all of the teachers and student teachers who entered our competition for some great Gaeilge resources sponsored by Smarty Cat Games. It was a great success and, in fact, was the most popular competition we have run on the site so far with 153 entries. Smarty Cat Games Competition

Smarty Cat Games is a new Gaeilge resource which consists of ten games covering each of the ten themes of Curaclam na Gaeilge (Mé Féin, Sa Bhaile, Ar Scoil, Bia, Teilifís, Siopadóireacht, Caitheamh Aimsire, Éadaí, An Aimsir, Ócáidí Speisialta). The games are packaged as a suite of ten and come in an easy to store plastic transparent box. ‘Cluichí Gaeilge’ is all about making learning Irish fun, interactive and enjoyable for children!

Edublog Awards 2012 Nominations

The Edublog Awards is a community based initiative started in 2004 in response to community concerns relating to how schools, districts and educational institutions were blocking access of learner and teacher blog sites for educational purposes. The purpose of the Edublog Awards is promote and demonstrate the educational values of these social media. Nominations are open until November 26th under 19 different categories, after which time voting will commence.
