Signs of Spring 2016
It’s that time of year again for our Signs of Spring Twitter Project 2016. With Easter falling so early this year, it’s better to do this project before, rather than after, Easter. This will be our 5th year of this event and it gives teachers and pupils a chance to look about and observe the signs of Spring in their environment.
We’ve done a Signs of Autumn (#anfomhar) and Signs of Spring (#antearrach) Twitter Projects for the past five years and classes seemed to really enjoy these. Hopefully, we can build on the success of previous projects and get even more schools and classes involved. read more…
Receptive Language Cards 01
This resource is aimed at pupils in junior classes or pupils with speech and language difficulties, especially receptive language. Its aim is to develop listening skills as well as deduction skills.
The resource contains twelve cards with colourful photographs of items/objects. There are also three different sets of twelve question cards based on the same photograph cards.

Book Review – One Good Turn
“One Good Turn” by Brian Gallagher is about when the Easter Rising is just over and Gerry Quinn’s life is tough. He is living with his uncle. His uncle does not treat him well and he doesn’t know that Gerry took a jacket and got caught. Then one day he wanted to run away. Number Strips 02
This resource is aimed at pupils in second/third/fourth classes or SEN pupils. Its purpose is to assist with the understanding of HTU by ordering them on a number strip.
Laminate all of the pages in the resource. Cut out the five number strips and the corresponding numbers, which are colour co-ordinated to assist with matching. Place velcro in each of the boxes on the number strips
Ice-Cream Number Strips
This resource is aimed at pupils in infants/first classes or SEN pupils. Its purpose is to assess the ability of the pupil to correctly count objects, in this case, ice-creams. The focus is on numbers 6-15 so that the pupil has experience of bridging a ten when counting.
Laminate all of the pages in the resource. Cut out the ten number strips, the two blank answer strips and the yellow answer boxes.
Book Review: Let’s See Ireland
“Let’s See Ireland” is both written and illustrated by Sarah Bowie. I really enjoyed this book. I read it with my Granny and then again with my mom. She helped me with some of the hard words like Glendalough!

Is It Heavy Or Light?
This resource is aimed at pupils in junior classes or pupils with speech and language difficulties. Its aim is to encourage oral language, especially sentence structure. The focus is also on the concept of heavy/light. The teacher can start with the question at the top of each card: “Is It Heavy or Light?” This could be followed up with questions like “How Do You Know?” Questioning will encourage inference and deduction from the context.
Teaching Council Elections 2016
Voting for the election of teachers to the Teaching Council opened today, Monday, 22 February and will close at noon on Wednesday, 9 March. The election is to fill the places of 16 teachers on the 37-member Teaching Council, whose current term of office comes to an end in March 2016. read more…
Heavy & Light Sorting
This resource is aimed at pupils in junior classes or pupils with speech and language difficulties. Categorisation is an important skill for younger/SEN pupils to develop. This resource aims to develop categorisation skills as well as to encourage oral language. This sorting activity focuses on the concept of the difference between heavy and light.
