Welcome to Seomra Ranga, the Hub for Primary School Resources. For the overseas visitors “Seomra Ranga” means “classroom” in the Irish language.

Seomra Ranga has been successfully providing tried and tested resources for primary school classrooms since 2007. Since that time, the site has gradually built up a strong following amongst educators as a repository of quality teacher-created resources. The resources on the site, which support all areas of the curriculum, are arranged in accordance with the curricular provisions of the Irish primary school….

Christmas Greetings

Christmas Celebration 009

Christmas greetings to you all from Seomra Ranga, and best wishes for the New Year. Enjoy the well-earned break and return to the site in 2010 for all your classroom resources. It’s been a busy year for Seomra Ranga, especially since September when the site experienced record numbers of visitors. This level of traffic to the site has exceeded all expectations with almost 450,000 visitors to the site during the last twelve months, the past four months being the busiest of all. It’s been so busy with traffic that the site has crashed twice as the allocated bandwidth was exceeded. The hosting plan has been upgraded to try to cope with the level of visitors so hopefully this will not happen again.

A special word of thanks to those who went to the trouble of uploading resources to the site to share with others. It’s easy to do – just attach the resource (in any format .doc, .ppt, .pdf, .jpeg, .pub, etc) to an e-mail and send it to info@seomraranga.com.

2010 will hopefully bring new and fresh changes to the site. Already the domain name www.seomraranga.ie has been secured so the site is now also accessible through that address. The site is also currently being re-designed and will hopefully be launched early in the new year. New content and resources are also being planned to add to the existing bank of resources on the site. Please let me know if there are changes that you feel would add to the design and functionality of the site.

Oíche Nollag

Go raibh maith agat do Dolores Stewart don nasc seo. ‘Sé dán do chuid Máire Mhac an tSaoi atá oiriúnach don am seo den bhliain. Is féidir é a thaispeáint do na hardranganna go háirithe, ach mar sin féin, tá an dán léite as Gaeilge agus as Béarla. Bain taitneamh as.  …

New Christmas Resources

ta_san_nioclas_ag

Lots of new Christmas resources have been added to the Christmas @ Seomra Ranga (www.christmas.seomraranga.com) website recently. These include Christmas bookmarks, some seasonal door signs, Advent Wreath flashcards, flashcards for “A Christmas Carol” by Charles Dickens, Christmas themed number lines and “Tá San Nioclás ag …..” ainm briathartha posters. A new section of Christmas Wordles has also been added to the site. As usual, all of the resources are free to download to all users of the site. If you have Christmas resources that you are willing to share, please upload them to info@seomraranga.com

Seomra Ranga / Edware Competition

Many thanks to all Seomra Ranga users who took the trouble to upload a resource to the website during the month of November for the Seomra Ranga / Edware Competition. Many new resources have been added to the site as a result of the competition. Some people added many new resources to the site. However, overall, I thought that many more individuals would have taken part in the competition, especially given that the site attracts so many visitors each month.

Many thanks to Luke Curley at Edware Interactive Learning (www.edware.ie) for sponsoring the prizes of the popular Know Your Ireland and Know Your Europe software. Each person who uploaded a resource was allocated a number by me. Luke then selected three random numbers in order to select the prize recipients. The winners of the prizes are Shaygirl, Orla Dempsey and Drom NS.

Christmas @ Seomra Ranga

christmaswebsite02

The Christmas season is upon us again and the Christmas @ Seomra Ranga website, which was launched last year, is up and running again. It’s full of resources for the Christmas season in the classroom: religious resources, signs and posters, music and visual arts ideas. New this year are some resources created with Wordle. Some new Christmas resources will be added to the site over the coming days and weeks, so keep returning to the site to view these. If you have a Christmas resource that you have created yourself, please share it with others by uploading it to Seomra Ranga. Suggestions of links to other sites with Christmas resources are also welcome.

New Irish Geography Resources

A set of new flashcard resources on the physical geography of Ireland has just been added to the Seomra Ranga website. The resources are all in .pdf format and are in full colour similar to the example above of the mountains of Ireland resource. The following is a list of these new resources:

Seomra Ranga / Edware Competition

Seomra Ranga is delighted to team up with Edware Interactive Learning (http://www.edware.ie), an Irish company,  to bring you a competition on the website for the month of November. Edware is sponsoring prizes of their hugely successful geography software programmes Know Your Ireland (two copies) and Know Your Europe. Edware also produces the Know Your World and Know Your USA programmes. All these programmes are especially suitable to be used on an IWB for whole class teaching. They also feature lots of activities based on the content of each programme.

To be in with a chance of winning one of these three prizes, all you have to do is upload a resource to the Seomra Ranga website during the month of November. Simply attach the resource, in any format (.doc, .ppt, .pdf, .xls, .pub, .jpg etc) to an e-mail and send it to info@seomraranga.com You can enter the competition as many times as you wish – one e-mail = one competition entry. The only condition is that you must have created the resource yourself and not received it from someone else or downloaded it from another website.

So if you have documents, lesson plans or classroom resources that you have created, please consider sharing them with others through the Seomra Ranga website and be in with a chance to win an excellent piece of software. It is Seomra Ranga practice to credit the creator of a resource on the website. If you would prefer not to have your name with a resource on the site, please indicate this on your entry e-mail. So get uploading your resources during November.
