The 8th Safer Internet Day will be celebrated on 7th February 2012 in many countries across the world, including Ireland, centred on the theme “Connecting generations and educating each other“, where they encourage users young and old to “discover the digital world together…safely”!.
640 Teachers to Retire in Next Two Months

Figures released to Seomra Ranga by the Department of Education and Skills (DES) have revealed that it expects in the region of 640 primary school teachers to retire during the course of the next two months. Under the terms of the Croke Park Agreement (CPA), teachers who retire before the end of February 2012 will get a lump sum and pension based on their 2009 salaries, rather than their current salaries which have been reduced by cuts over the past couple of years. Guest Post: Infants and ICT

ICT is not a formal subject in Irish Primary Schools, it is not included in the Curriculum timetable. However it plays a major part in school life, both for the teacher and for the students. It is used in various forms, in every subject and at all levels. Many 4/5 year olds come into school quite confident in using technology. Some children, however, have not had the experience of using a computer and need to learn the basic skills involved. I teach Junior Infants and we are lucky to have a computer room in our school, as well as computers/laptops in classrooms. Every Wednesday morning I spend three quarters of an hour in the computer room with my class.
