Welcome to Seomra Ranga, the Hub for Primary School Resources. For the overseas visitors “Seomra Ranga” means “classroom” in the Irish language.

Seomra Ranga has been successfully providing tried and tested resources for primary school classrooms since 2007. Since that time, the site has gradually built up a strong following amongst educators as a repository of quality teacher-created resources. The resources on the site, which support all areas of the curriculum, are arranged in accordance with the curricular provisions of the Irish primary school….

Edublog Awards Poster

As you may know, Seomra Ranga is a finalist in the Edublog Awards in the “Best Individual Blog” category. It is up against some really big and well-known blogs from the US and the UK. As these awards are given on the basis of a public vote, I’d appreciate if teachers who use the site would ask their colleagues to vote for Seomra Ranga. You can vote every day at http://edublogawards.com/vote-here/ until December 9th. There’s a downloadable poster for your staffroom to encourage your colleagues to vote. Please print it out and display prominently in your staffroom! Many thanks!

Seomra Ranga a Finalist in Edublog Awards

I was delighted this morning to find out that  Seomra Ranga has been selected as a finalist in the international Edublog Awards in the Best Individual Blog category. The Edublog Awards were set up to promote and celebrate the value of blogs and social media in education. Although Seomra Ranga has been nominated before, this is the first time that it has made it through to the voting round. Many thanks to those who nominated Seomra Ranga. Now is the time to ask for your votes. If you are a regular visitor to Seomra Ranga, it would be great to show you appreciation by voting for the website. It is up against some “heavy hitters” from the US and the UK, so it would be amazing to feature in the final selection. read more…

What Floor?

Nice Powerpoint presentation to help infant pupils with learning the numbers 1-5. It is really an activity that integrates other curricular strands also: it can be used for learning numbers in maths, oral language in English and oral language in Gaeilge.

Acmhainní don Ghaeilge ó Foinse

I’ve only recently become aware of some nice Gaeilge resources on the Foinse website. Foinse, the Irish language newspaper, has created a number of resources to support the teaching of Gaeilge in the primary school. They have resources to support almost every one of the ten themes in the Gaeilge curriculum. The resources are arranged under the following headings: Ceachtanna; Cluichí; Póstaeir; Líon na Bearnaí; Míreanna Mearaí; Crosfhocail.  read more…

School Self-Evaluation

School Self-Evaluation (SSE) is something that we are going to hear a lot more about over the coming years as the process of schools evaluating their own policies and practices will become a core part of the planning process of the school. The Minister for Education and Skills, Ruairi Quinn, recently launched new school self-evaluation guidelines to support schools to evaluate their own work and to set targets to improve teaching and learning. The aim is to help to achieve the targets set out in the Programme for Government and in the National Literacy and Numeracy Strategy, launched by the Minister last year. At the launch of the guidelines, the Minister said: read more…

Smarty Cat Games Competition Winners

Many thanks to all of the teachers and student teachers who entered our competition for some great Gaeilge resources sponsored by Smarty Cat Games. It was a great success and, in fact, was the most popular competition we have run on the site so far with 153 entries. Obviously, there is a great need for quality Gaeilge resources. Again, many thanks to Claire O’ Gorman, creator of the resources, for sponsoring the prize packs for this competition.  Most people found the questions quite easy, but just to confirm, the answers were: read more…
