Welcome to Seomra Ranga, the Hub for Primary School Resources. For the overseas visitors “Seomra Ranga” means “classroom” in the Irish language.
Seomra Ranga has been successfully providing tried and tested resources for primary school classrooms since 2007. Since that time, the site has gradually built up a strong following amongst educators as a repository of quality teacher-created resources. The resources on the site, which support all areas of the curriculum, are arranged in accordance with the curricular provisions of the Irish primary school….

Tell a Story Using Talking QR Codes
I’ve written a previous blog post about Talking QR Codes and how they could be used in the classroom. Put basically, you type in a text message of no more than 100 characters in length on the QR Voice website, which then creates a QR Code. You then save the QR Code as an image to put on a blog/website or print out the code and display it on a noticeboard. When the code is scanned using a QR Code Reader App (lots of free ones are available in the App Store and in the Android App Store) the message is read back using an electronic voice. read more…
Convert YouTube Video to MP3
There are often times when teachers come across video content on YouTube that they wish to use in the classroom. However, it may be that they really only want the audio content of the video eg. a song/rhyme. It may be that the teacher feels that the video content is distracting or that YouTube is blocked in their school. I recently came across a video read more…
Guest Post – Thinking Blocks
What can be a big problem when trying to solve maths problems? For some children they just can’t picture or visualise what is happening in the problem. If this is something you notice in your class, then I’d really recommend you check out Thinking Blocks, an excellent free maths learning tool that uses blocks to model and solve basic maths problems from topics like addition, multiplication, fractions, and ratio. Through these activities, students learn how to model each maths problem, as well as identify known and unknown quantities. read more…

8X Tables Song
This short video might appeal to pupils learning the 8X Tables. It’s from the Education City website. I think it’s a subscription website so there don’t appear to be any more videos available on YouTube for the other multiplication tables. Nevertheless, I’m sure teachers will make use out of this one….

Parting Words to Pupils Leaving the School
It has become a tradition in our school in recent years to produce a commemorative Yearbook to present to the pupils in 6th class as they leave the school. The organisation, collection of material and printing of the book is all done by parents. It includes profiles of each pupil of the departing 6th Class, which they have filled out themselves, as well as lots of photographs of their journey through the school. A pupil usually designs the cover of the book. I was asked to pen a few words to be included in the book. At first, I really wasn’t sure what to write. I consulted my best friend, Google, looking for ideas. read more…
Seomra Ranga’s First Facebook Viral Post
The power of Facebook was clearly demonstrated to me last night. I came across this maxim on Twitter yesterday afternoon, shared by Toby Price: “Teachers Don’t Take Summers Off – They Do A Year’s Worth Of Work In Ten Months“. I liked the phrase so much and it made a lot of sense to me, so I created an image with the phrase on it and shared the image on the Seomra Ranga Facebook Page. read more…
