Parting Words to Pupils Leaving the School
It has become a tradition in our school in recent years to produce a commemorative Yearbook to present to the pupils in 6th class as they leave the school. The organisation, collection of material and printing of the book is all done by parents. It includes profiles of each pupil of the departing 6th Class, which they have filled out themselves, as well as lots of photographs of their journey through the school. A pupil usually designs the cover of the book. I was asked to pen a few words to be included in the book. At first, I really wasn’t sure what to write. The power of Facebook was clearly demonstrated to me last night. I came across this maxim on Twitter yesterday afternoon, shared by Toby Price: “Teachers Don’t Take Summers Off – They Do A Year’s Worth Of Work In Ten Months“. I liked the phrase so much and it made a lot of sense to me, so I created an image with the phrase on it and shared the image on the Seomra Ranga Facebook Page. read more…

Blog Awards Ireland will bring together the Irish online community collaborating in a single event in October 2013 to celebrate blogging in Ireland. The event celebrates the best in Irish blogging by creating 31 categories which offer plenty of scope for bloggers. Droichead Pilot Project Under A Cloud
I wrote back in April on this website about Droichead, the proposed new pilot project for induction and probation of Newly Qualified Teachers (NQTs) developed by the Teaching Council. The proposed pilot project was due to take place in in the seven counties which traditionally attracted the highest number of NQTs (Dublin, Cork, Galway, Limerick, Kildare, Meath and Wexford). Across these counties, the Council proposed to involve approximately 200 primary and 100 post primary schools in the pilot project. read more…
