Peg Comprehension: The Gingerbread Man
This resource is aimed at junior pupils or SEN pupils at the beginning of literacy work on comprehension. It is based on the Ladybird “Read It Yourself (Level 2)” version of the story, but could probably be used with any version. Either the pupil reads the story themselves, or the teacher/SNA reads the story to the pupil.

Book Review: Fintan’s Fifteen
I thought that “Fintan’s Fifteen” was certainly a very clever book, packed with jokes, quirks and one very cute dog. I found this book extremely funny and liked how the author created and personalised all his characters – my favourite was iPaddy! The book mainly follows Rusty, who arrived in Ireland two years ago from Brazil and soon fell in love with hurling. This resource is aimed at infant/junior pupils or SEN pupils. It is based on learning and discrimination of colours with a “star” theme. Laminate all of the pages in the resource and cut up into twelve separate cards. Pupils should look at the star on the left of each card. The pupil should then attach a peg to the matching colour on the right side of each card.

Farkle is a dice game that is fun, strategic and uses mental maths. The game uses six dice and is for two or more players. The winner of the game is the first to reach 10,000 points. CVC Blending Discs 02
This resource is aimed at infant or SEN pupils at the beginning of work on phonics. It is based on CVC words with -at, -et, -it, -ot and -ut endings. Laminate all of the pages in the resource and cut up into 22 separate discs. The object in the centre of each disc is a visual clue for the pupil. Starting on the left of the disc and working clockwise, the pupil should blend the sounds to make the word.
