Seomra Ranga has been successfully providing tried and tested resources for primary school classrooms since 2007. Since that time, the site has gradually built up a strong following amongst educators as a repository of quality teacher-created resources. The resources on the site, which support all areas of the curriculum, are arranged in accordance with the curricular provisions of the Irish primary school….

Peg Fractions 01This resource is aimed at pupils in middle classes or SEN pupils at the beginning of work on fractions. It is based on finding a half of a number up to twenty. Laminate all of the pages in the resource and cut up into ten separate cards. Pupils should work out the fraction on the left side of each card and place a clothes peg on the correct answer on the right of the card.

Teach Your Monster To ReadDeveloped by the Usborne Foundation, Teach Your Monster To Read (First Steps) is an iPad app aimed at younger pupils embarking on the road to reading. It is presented in a game format which should appeal to younger pupils. They have to initially create a personalised monster which is then brought on a journey around island kingdoms. The King on the island asks the monster to assist him which involves the pupils learning a letter/sound and taking part in games/exercises to consolidate the letter/sound. read more…

Book Review: Finding A Voice

Finding A Voice“Finding a Voice” by Kim Hood is a story of friendship and has many themes relating to it such as feeling lonely and not fitting in. It is also about the assumptions people often make about people with disability. The main character in the book is teenage girl Jo who faces two main difficulties in her young life. Her mother is unwell for much of her time and Jo worries about her mum but tries to keep her head down and remain strong. Jo doesn’t like to ask for help as she fears that ‘help’ might mean that her mother could be taken away from her. read more…
