Record Number of Entries for 2015 RDS Primary Science Fair
This January over 2,700 4th, 5th and 6th class students from across the country will be at the RDS Primary Science Fair (PSF) with their class projects that answer questions such as ‘Do cows have blue eyes?’ ‘Why don’t aeroplanes fall from the sky?’ and ‘What type of cup keeps liquid hot the longest?’
Such was the interest in the fair that a 43% increase in applicants saw the 2015 event oversubscribed by 130%, with half of the schools being first time entrants. read more…
Fit 4 Skool Website
Fit4Skool is a new, innovative online resource to increase physical activity and healthy eating in school. It will support teachers in the delivery of the P.E. curriculum by incorporating fundamental movements and skills, warm-up games, stretches and assessments.
The content is delivered through a digital learning platform allowing the children to engage in an exciting and stimulating manner. The content is age appropriate and students can access the programme at home using their individual access codes. read more…

Seomra Ranga Nominated for Three Edublog Awards
Seomra Ranga has again this year been selected as a finalist in the international Edublog Awards in three different categories: Best Individual Blog, Best Teacher Blog and Best Ed Tech/Resource Sharing Blog. The Edublog Awards were set up to promote and celebrate the value of blogs and social media in education. Seomra Ranga previously won the overall Best Individual Blog at the Edublog Awards 2012.

Book Review: Zig and Zag: The Fridge in a Denim Jacket
This was a great book. It was hilarious because it had lots of jokes. I thought the speech bubbles were very funny. The pictures were very detailed and colourful. This would be suitable for kids aged 6 to 10. I would give it 9 out of 10. read more…
Apps For SEN Pupils
Last weekend, I presented at the inaugural Donegal Teachmeet, organised by four excellent local educators. This resource is the presentation I delivered on apps suitable for working with SEN pupils. The focus was on iPad apps as it is iPads that we have in our ASD unit. There are recommendations for ten different apps in the Powerpoint presentation, with most focusing on language and reading. read more…

Fuaim-U and Fuaim-C are Irish phonics apps that follows a phonic programme for children learning to read and spell in Irish.
