Ar Ais Ar Scoil is a rhyming, dual language picture book about the return to primary school in September after the recent lockdown. This short story is told in both English and Gaeilge and highlights some of the differences that children might notice in their classrooms and schools this year – routines like social distancing, hygiene and hand washing. In this way it is hoped that this will help to initiate important conversations about new classroom routines and practices.

Aimed at younger pupils, the book has been written and illustrated by two practising and experienced primary school teachers. Teachers will be interested to note that, at the back of the book, the authors have included a comprehensive list of activities which could be used to explore the strands of Oral Language, Reading and Writing in both English and Irish, in line with the learning outcomes of the Primary Language Curriculum.

This book has been written and published by the authors on a non-commercial basis in order to raise funds for the extraordinary Laura Lynn Foundation – Ireland’s Children’s Home and Hospital. 100% of the proceeds from the sale of this book will be sent directly to Laura Lynn.
