Hessian is an easy material to use for a Visual Arts lesson under the Fabric and Fibre Strand. Pupils in various class standards should be able to complete this lesson. The video below demonstrates how to complete this lesson.

The video demonstrates how to create a pattern in the piece of hessian by simply pulling out some threads, and creating a fringe border by pulling out some more threads from the material.

When the lesson in the video is completed, chalk pastels could be used to colour the pattern, as can be seen from the image above.
