Junior Spiders

Since 1996 the eircom Spider Awards have honoured Irish individuals and organisations for their outstanding achievements online and celebrated the successes of the Irish internet and digital media. The eircom Junior Spider Awards were established in 2009 as a parallel programme for students at primary and post primary school level.The idea was originated by Business & Finance, working closely with main sponsors eircom.

The aim of these awards is to:

•Acknowledge the innovation amongst web creators in schools.

•Provide an exciting programme that will encourage teachers/students to further develop their technology skills in web design.

•Encourage the use of the internet to teach subjects on our curriculum.

•Act as a catalyst for those students who wish to pursue a career in this sector by providing access to influential business executives

 The section for Primary schools is called “Mega Spiders” and there are four prize categories: Best Project, Best School Blog, Best School Website, Grand Prix (Overall prize). The closing date for entries is November 1st. The prizegiving ceremony will take place on Tuesday 13th December 2011 in The Helix, DCU. There will be an exhibition open to all competition entrants in the morning. The awards ceremony and lunch which will take place in the afternoon.
