Global Schoolroom is an NGO that currently runs teacher training programmes in a remote region in NE India with the aim of improving education standards through a mutually beneficial scheme. Global Schoolroom recruits Irish teachers on a voluntary basis from September until mid-November each year. Hospital Matching 01
This resource is aimed at pupils in junior classes or SEN pupils with speech and language difficulties. It assumes an ability to read. The hospital vocabulary would also need to be taught in advance. Its aim is to assess whether pupils can match the hospital-related words with the appropriate images.
Laminate all of the pages in the resource. Cut up the images into 12 separate cards. Cut up the hospital words on page 3.

Book Review: Conor’s Caveman
“Conor’s Caveman” is an enthralling book written by Alan Nolan. It is about a young boy named Conor who is part of a team of scouts. Every weekend the scouts go camping at different destinations. Conor is so shy it cripples him. Conor only has one friend called Charlie, who is the toughest girl he has ever seen.

Rounding Money
Today, October 28th, is Rounding Rollout Day. From this date, the total shop bill will be rounded either up or down to the nearest 5c. After a very positive pilot project in Wexford in 2013, rounding is now being rolled out nationwide. It is voluntary for both the customer and the retailer and pertains to cash transactions only.

Rounding Money 100 Square
On the day on which rounding money comes into operation in Ireland, this resource may assist pupils in calculating whether to round up or round down. It consists of a colour-coded 100 square – one colour showing when to round down (1c, 2c, 6c, 7c); one colour showing when to round up (3c, 4c, 8c, 9c); and one colour showing the nearest 5c. It would also be good to be shown large on an IWB as a visual prompt when doing work on rounding.

Phonic Addition 01
This resource is suitable for infant classes or for SEN pupils at the beginning of work on phonics. Focusing on the -at rime, it consists of onsets and rime cards to enable pupils to construct phonic sentences to make words. eg. c + at = cat; h + at = hat etc. It has all the onsets/rimes and signs to make nine phonic addition sentences.

Peg Comprehension: Ratburger 01
This resource is aimed at middle class pupils or SEN pupils at the beginning of literacy work on comprehension. It is based on the beginning chapters of the novel “Ratburger” by David Walliams. Either the pupil reads the story themselves, or the teacher/SNA reads the story to the pupil.
Laminate all of the pages in the resource and cut up into seven separate cards. Either the pupil or teacher/SNA should read the question at the top of each card

Peg Fruit and Veg Box 02
This resource focuses on positional language, which can pose some difficulties for younger pupils and SEN pupils. It consists of a table of nine boxes, each of which contains an item of fruit or vegetables. Twelve question cards based on the table are also included. The cards contain positional language like under, above, below, to the right of, to the left of.
Laminate all of the pages in the resource and cut up pages 2-4 into twelve separate cards. For each question on the left of the cards, there are three possible answers given on the right.
