Seomra Ranga has been successfully providing tried and tested resources for primary school classrooms since 2007. Since that time, the site has gradually built up a strong following amongst educators as a repository of quality teacher-created resources. The resources on the site, which support all areas of the curriculum, are arranged in accordance with the curricular provisions of the Irish primary school….

Mother Goose Time

I accidentally came across this book of rhymes on the internet while looking for something else. There are 24 pages of rhymes, songs, nursery rhymes, hello and goodbye rhymes, fingerplays, action rhymes and lap rhymes. It comes from the Henrico County Public Libraries in Virginia, USA. It’s a free download which I think would be great for all infant teachers.

It was a bit of a journey into the unknown as I consigned my teacher’s table to the back of the room, making it unemployed for the remainder of the term. read more…

Scratch

I’m doing the NCTE summer course on Scratch Programming and Numeracy in Senior Primary Classes this week. I’d heard and read a lot about Scratch over the years but knew virtually nothing about how to work it or how it could be used in the classroom. Scratch, developed by the Lifelong Kindergarten Group at the MIT Media Lab, is a free programming language that makes it easy to create your own interactive stories, animations, games, music, and art — and share your creations on the web. read more…
