Know Your Ireland App
Many teachers will be familiar with the great “Know Your Ireland” geography software for schools from the Irish software company Edware. This company also produces other similar geography titles: “Know Your Europe”, “Know Your USA”, “Know Your World”. Edware has now released a “Know Your Ireland” iPad app available in the iTunes App Store. We all know that it can be really difficult to find apps that are specific to the Irish curriculum and to Irish classrooms, so I was delighted to read about this new release. read more…

2013 RDS Primary Science Fair
As the new school term begins the RDS is delighted to call for entries for the 2013 RDS Primary Science Fair!
The Fair provides a public forum for primary schools across Ireland to showcase their class STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) projects, receive feedback from experts in the field and learn from viewing other projects at a major exhibition, the BT Young Scientist and Technology Exhibition which takes place from January 10-12, 2013. read more…

“Leave it to Eva” is the latest book by the author Judi Curtin. This story is about a girl called Eva Gordon who is looking forward to returning to Seacove with her family for the second summer in a row! She can’t wait to see her friends Kate and Lily. Seacove is a place that Eva loves and she has many great memories from the previous Summer. But when Eva returns to Seacove everything is not so lovely anymore! Pangrams
Pangrams are sentences that contain all twenty-six letters of the alphabet at least once. A perfect pangram contains only twenty-six letters, which is quite difficult to achieve. Probably the best known pangram is the one used to illustrate type fonts: “The quick brown fox jumps over the lazy dog”. This is a handout with eighteen examples of pangrams found on the ‘net. I use these for handwriting practice.

Back to School Programming on RTÉ
As hundreds of thousands of children and teenagers across the country prepare to make their way back through the school gates, RTÉ will this week explore the subject of education in Ireland in BACK TO SCHOOL, a week-long season of programmes and features across RTÉ Television, Radio and Online. These will be of special interest to teachers, parents, pupils and the wider education community as the theme of education is put in the spotlight by our national broadcaster. There are three television documentaries on consecutive nights, starting on Sunday night with the one which will be of most interest to primary teachers, Primary Pressures, a “fly-on-the-wall” documentary in a DEIS primary school.
