OLLY an Veain Bheag Bhán App
It’s so difficult to find any Gaeilge apps on the market, so to find two new apps released within days of each other is remarkable. TG4 have been busy developing apps for younger children with the release this time last year of the first Cúla Caint app and the release this week of Cúla Caint 2. Now comes the release of another app for younger children called “OLLY an Veain Bheag Bhán”. This app is based on a popular animation series on TG4 for younger children featuring the adventures of a friendly, helpful little van with lots of his friends and his driver Stan. read more…
Cúla Caint 2 App
After the success of the first Cúla Caint App, TG4 have just released the second version of the app, Cúla Caint 2. The app, aimed at younger pupils, is in the same format as the first and provides lots of fun Irish language words. The vocabulary is presented in five groups: Bia, Dathanna, Uimhreacha, Éadaí agus an Aibitír. It includes the written and the spoken version of each word accompanied by clear images of the word. read more…
Science Week 2012
Science Week Ireland takes place from Sunday November 11th to Sunday November 18th. It is an exciting and innovative annual event which first took place in 1996. It has grown to a programme of over 500 events scheduled across the country. It aims to make science more interesting and accessible to children and adults alike. PE Games App
There are very few PE apps on the market suitable for the primary school teacher. However, today I saw a recommendation from Mr. Robbo on Twitter for the PE Games app which I downloaded. The app is full of lesson plans for games for the PE class. The lesson plans for the games are organised into different categories: chasing games, co-operative games, major games, reaction games, relay games, and general games. There’s also some handy tips and tricks for how to form teams for some of the games. read more…

Dublin by Numbers
I got an email today from Mary Mulvihill from Ingenious Ireland letting me know about free maths activity trails that she has on her site. Called “Dublin by Numbers“, the trails are suitable for primary school pupils. The various activities in the trails range from simple to fairly complex, and teachers can pick and choose, to put together their own trail around St Stephen’s Green and Merrion Square, tailoring the activities to their students’ ability.
