Guest Post: Gifted Education Awareness Week
During the summer, I had the opportunity to connect with Gifted education specialists from other countries, some in person, some online. What struck me about the conversations we had was the almost universal lament for the state of provision for Gifted education. But mostly what seemed different to me was the extent to which it was a given that there should be specific provision to meet the educational needs of Gifted children within schools (and sometimes specialist schools), funded by the taxpayer and delivered by teachers with Gifted education as a specialism in their training. read more…

How many of you know about, or have heard of, “App Friday“? App Friday is a weekly promotion to highlight educational apps published each week on the App Friday home page. Every Friday, a grid of apps is published on the site at free or reduced prices. The site does deals with developers who publish family-friendly or educational content apps. These apps are then featured on the App Friday website, showing the price reduction and with a link to the iTunes App Store. read more…
Book Review: Milo and One Dead Angry Druid
The book we are reviewing is the first in the series called The Milo Adventures. Its title is “Milo and One Dead Angry Druid”. It is written and illustrated by Mary Arrigan. This book is about a druid, an ancient stone and two best friends. When Shane, (Milo’s best friend) discovers an ancient stone in his back garden, he doesn’t realise the consequences that will ensue. Again, thanks to Twitter, I was alerted to this resource pack put together by South Dublin Libraries who, in 2013 in association with Poetry Ireland (Writers in Libraries Scheme), presented Writing History: 1913 Lockout, a project which brought two authors to six schools via the library service. This information pack has been created by South Dublin Libraries as part of this project, and is the first of a series of centenary commemorative booklets that are part of their ongoing commitment to preserve our history through education. read more…
Seomra Ranga’s 6th Birthday!
Today Seomra Ranga celebrates its sixth birthday, six years of free resources on the web! Quite a lot has happened in those six years. Seomra Ranga has become such a part of my daily routine, it’s really hard to imagine my life without it! For something that started out as a way to relieve the boredom of being stuck at home sick for a week, the site has grown so much in the intervening years to become a staple of the Irish online educational landscape. read more…
