“My First Book of Irish Sea Creatures” is the latest board book from the First Steps series by O’Brien Press. We adore this series at home, having previously gotten the G.A.A and Irish Wildlife books from the library. It has quickly become a family favourite for us.

This beautiful board book sets out to introduce young readers to a variety of Irish sea creatures. From the whale to the periwinkle, this brightly illustrated book covers a wide range of creatures native to Ireland. I love the use of photos over drawings to illustrate the animals. It is perfect for your budding marine biologist.

While the content and layout of this book is very simple, I do think it would still have a place in a primary school classroom. Its large, bold text and eye-catching pictures makes it perfect for children at a pre-reading level. It would be a great way to broaden vocabulary and would come in very handy alongside Aistear. I could also envision practical uses for this book in a SEN or EAL setting.

A simple, cute and informative book. 9/10
