Badger Books by Paddy Donnelly is a truly charming story for both young and old alike. Set predominantly in Badger’s bookshop, we are introduced to Badger and his imaginative little customer Rory Fox. Badger has books about everything, so he thought, until his new little friend Rory can’t find the book he really wants.
The unexpected friendship between Badger and Rory Fox shows that anything is possible, reminding us that even the littlest among us can do hard things. It’s an empowering story for young readers, sparking the belief that our abilities are only limited by our imaginations.
While the book is aimed at children aged 4–8, I believe that its message of positivity and the power of yet will resonate with readers of any age.
The book is filled with beautiful imagery and wonderfully funny illustrations, packed with so much detail that you discover something new each time you read it. It’s a delightful story. I would highly recommend it, perfect for classroom read-alouds, a cozy bedtime cuddle, or simply to inspire imaginative dreams of what could be.
I would give this book 10/10.
