The Bookshop Sisters is a read-again-and-again book. It’s about two sisters named Rosy and Martha who start off in West Cork and then join their aunt Toto in her busy bookshop in Dublin. It is set in 1956, a time when things were very different from today and women and girls were not treated equally to men.

I really enjoyed this book because the sisters were funny, adventurous, brave and not afraid to stand up for themselves and for what they believe in.

My favourite part of the book was when aunt Toto went to court for selling a banned book. I liked this scene because it was like I was actually sitting next to Rosy in the courtroom. I could really feel the tension. My least favourite part was when aunt Toto got her hand caught in a printer. The author did a really good job of putting a vivid image in my mind.

At the start of each chapter, the author included definitions related to books, such as ‘bibliophile’ and ‘bibliography’. I found these really interesting and a very unique idea.

I would recommend this book for ages 9 to 14. If you love adventures, mysteries, bookshops and stories about sisterhood, make this your next read!

I am giving this book a 9/10.
