A Cork Fairytale follows Goldilocks and the Three Bears as they travel through Cork City while buying presents for their friend’s birthday. They make their way from UCC and follow a path that leads them past many of the city’s famous landmarks, from Fitzgerald’s Park, the Shakey Bridge, The Everyman Theatre, The English Market and Blarney Castle to name a few.
I like how the author uses Goldilocks and the Three Bears as the main characters in the story. As they shop for the presents Daddy Bear, Mammy Bear and Baby Bear each have their own opinion about what to get, but it’s Goldilocks who makes the ‘It’s just right!’ decision.
Being from Cork I really enjoyed this book. I could see myself following the route Goldilocks and the Three Bears took. The lovely bright illustrations bring the city to life, and you can imagine them walking up Oliver Plunkett Street and hearing ‘Echo’ as they pass the Post Office. Although I don’t teach in Cork, my class enjoyed this book, particularly one student who has been on her holidays to Cork.
