This resource is intended as a mental/oral maths activity. There are 36 different flashcards with sums to be worked out. They use the numbers 1-9 with four different flashcards for each number. Ordinal Number Arrows 02

ordinal_number_arrows_02Ordinal Numbers are numbers that tell the position of items in a list eg. 1st, 2nd, 3rd etc. The ordinal number flashcards in this resource are portrait and three to a page. Included are flashcards from 1st to 12th as well as a header which says “Ordinal Numbers”.

The flashcards could simply be laminated and used as a display or they could be used to get pupils to place beside a set of items on the table or on the floor. I’m sure there are lots of other creative ways they could be used in the classroom. [click to continue…]

Pelmanism 05

pelmanism_05Pelmanism is the name of the memory game which you play by turning up pairs of cards from a pack and trying to pick out matching pairs. It is named after the Pelman Institute which was set up for the study of memory in London in the 1930s.

This oral language memory game focuses on homophones (words that sound the same but are spelled differently). There are three sets of sixteen cards (eight pairs) in this pack, 48 cards in all. The game can be played initially using one set and as the pupils become proficient, another set can be added. [click to continue…]
