Getting pupils to work in groups is a great methodology to take advantage of in the classroom. However, in order for it to be most effective, it is helpful to allocate pupils a role to play in the group discussion, otherwise the usual confident pupils may take over, and the pupils you want to encourage to take a more active part may stay in the background. These cards indicate to pupils the role that they are to take in the group discussion. Each card explains what this role entails. It is recommended that each time group work is done that the roles are constantly changed to give all pupils a chance at taking on a different role. It is not necessary to use all of the cards with a group. Two of the cards have been left blank to allow the teacher to add in roles of their own.
