elcome to the Seomra Ranga website. For the overseas visitors "Seomra Ranga" means "classroom" in the Irish language. The aim of the website is to share practical resources for the primary school classroom on the web. The downloadable resources provided on the site are simply personal resources that I have put together over the years. Most of them I have used in my teaching in the classroom.

I have attempted to arrange the resources in accordance with the curriculum provisions of the Irish primary school. Some sections of the website have more resources than others so I'm looking for teachers to upload and share their own resources to fill in the gaps.

Now that the school year is over, I'd like to extend my thanks to all the visitors to the Seomra Ranga website during the past school year. The success of the site has taken me by surprise. There have been over 48,000 individual visits to the site since it went live last September. The visitors have literally been from all over the world.

My thanks especially to the teachers who took the time to upload their own resources to the site and share them with everybody. I'd appeal to other teachers to consider sharing your resources with us all. If you've downloaded a resource, try to upload one in return. So if you are tidying up your desktop over the next week or during the summer, perhaps you'd consider uploading a resource of your own. Simply click the ad bar below, attach the resource (in whatever format - word, powerpoint, excel, publisher, photos etc.) and e-mail it to me and I'll share it with the world. Enjoy your summer break and return to Seomra Ranga in September.

The Seomra Ranga Blog is now set up and running. It's very much in its infancy as its a learning curve for me. However, it's hoped to develop it progressively over the coming months. Because Seomra Ranga is all about providing resources for teachers, you'll find links on the blog to sites that provide resources to download, free software and Interactive White Board resources. The blog address is:

In order to expand the website and to develop the range of resources available, I am simply asking teachers who download a resource to upload a resource in return. This can be done by clicking on the link at the top of each page and e-mailing the resource to me as an attachment. The source of all resources uploaded to the site will be acknowledged and the resource will also remain the copyright of the individual teacher. I am particularly looking for more resources in science and PE.

The copyright of others must be respected at all times. Please make sure that if you use material in your resource which you have sourced elsewhere, that you properly acknowledge the source of the material, either an individual or website.  I would appreciate all help in continuing to expand the website. Thanks in anticipation!

Seomra Ranga is pleased to announce a new web site resource. The site is about Tobernalt Holy Well, Sligo, one of numerous holy wells around Ireland. This could be linked to Penal times in history, to history of the faith in Ireland, or it could be the basis for the study of a local holy well. Downloadable classroom resources are provided. Teachers are also welcome to upload their own holy well resources.

I'm also looking for teachers to help me make a list of as many of Ireland's holy wells as possible. There are only 3,000 of them! Check out the website and see if your local well is included. If not, please let me know. The website address is:

It was suggested that teachers could send in photos of their locality to use as a history/geography resource for comparative study of another town/city. I thought it was a great idea and a new photo section has been added.

To view  these photos click here: >>>>>

If people have any photos of their locality that they're willing to share, simply e-mail them to me as attachments with an explanation of each photo and I'll make them available.

The links section of the website contains a comprehensive list of websites suitable for implementing the different aspects of the primary school curriculum. At the moment there are links to over 500 education related websites across all areas of the curriculum. The websites are just suggestions and teachers/schools should make their own judgements as to whether the sites are suitable for the children in their own classroom/school. Please let me know if there are links you think should be included on the site.

Seasonal times of the year give the teacher an opportunity to use the season as a theme to teach many different aspects of the curriculum. The following season resources are available:

Resources that I couldn't identify under a subject heading are contained in the miscellaneous section of the website. This section contains a range of different resources for the classroom including posters and signs for the classroom, quizzes, newsletters and handouts. This section also includes resources for the administration of standardised testing in the classroom as well as resources relating to ICT.

I have been involved in the Write - A - Book Project for many years and have delivered courses in connection with the project in Blackrock, West Dublin, Carrick-on-Shannon and Sligo Education Centres. It has been one of the most worthwhile projects that I have implemented in the classroom. I have gathered many resources in connection with the implementation of the project in the classroom and these are available for download on this website. Even if you do not participate in the project in your local Education Centre, the resources are appropriate for use in the teaching of creative writing in the classroom.

More information on these resources  here: >>>>>

Keep an eye out for the bibliography in some sections of the website. This includes suggestions of books that I have found helpful in the classroom - poetry books, Christmas plays and resource books for teachers.
