The National Sea Life Centre is located on the sea front in Bray, Co. Wicklow. Sometimes described as an “aquatic zoo”, it is home to over 1,000 creatures including Black Tip Reef Sharks, Octopus, Seahorses, Stingrays and Red-Bellied Piranha. It is a regular destination for school tours where pupils can engage in, amongst other things, quizzes, touch starfish and crabs and listen to talks [click to continue…]
Seomra Ranga has been selected as the Site of the Week on Scoilnet for this week. This is a great honour for the Seomra Ranga website to be highlighted again on Ireland’s largest portal site for education. Scoilnet referred to Seomra Ranga as the “multi award winning site [which] is a Scoilnet favourite for seasonal resources, teacher-made powerpoints, articles and insights”. [click to continue…]
Popular UK educational website Teaching News has selected Seomra Ranga as the first in its new series for the new year of “Brilliant Blogger of the Week“. Naturally, I’m delighted and honoured to be selected as the inaugural recipient of this weekly accolade on this well-known website. Teaching News is part of the stable of “Teaching” websites which includes Teaching Ideas, Teaching Library, Teaching Photos, Teaching Videos, and Teaching Appz. [click to continue…]
Now into its sixth year, it’s been another busy year on Seomra Ranga and it’s safe to say that, at this stage, the website has become a mainstay in the online educational digital landscape in Ireland. Without doubt, the highlight of the year came at the very end with the unexpected and surprising win of the Best Individual Blog in the Edublog 2012 Awards. Given that Seomra Ranga was pitted against 139 top educational blogs from literally all over the world puts the win into some perspective. Again, many thanks to those who nominated the site for the award initially and then to all those in the Irish education community [click to continue…]

A special “Thank You” to the thousands of visitors to the site during the past year. Thanks to all of you for your kind comments and appreciation for the work on the site throughout the year. Seomra Ranga has won the prestigious Best Individual Blog at the 9th annual international Edublog Awards held online last night. It was a truly unexpected win as I had presumed that the might of the larger US and UK blogs would prevail. There were originally 139 nominations from all over the world. This was whittled [...]
As you may know, Seomra Ranga is a finalist in the Edublog Awards in the “Best Individual Blog” category. It is up against some really big and well-known blogs from the US and the UK. As these awards are given on the basis of a public vote, I’d appreciate if teachers who use the site [...]
I was delighted this morning to find out that Seomra Ranga has been selected as a finalist in the international Edublog Awards in the Best Individual Blog category. The Edublog Awards were set up to promote and celebrate the value of blogs and social media in education. Although Seomra Ranga has been nominated before, this is the [...]
Today marks another milestone with the news that we’ve passed the 3,000 “Likes” milestone on the Seomra Ranga Facebook Page. It’s almost eight months to the day that we passed the 2,000 mark, so it’s unbelievable that another 1,000 people have joined the Seomra Ranga community on Facebook since then. The Seomra Ranga Facebook page [...]
Nollaig Shona, the Christmas resources website from Seomra Ranga, celebrated its first birthday this week. I spent many months during 2011 making preparations to launch the new site. Previously, the Christmas resources had been housed in a sub-domain of Seomra Ranga but the amount of resources was growing and needed their own website. So, after [...]
The Irish Web Awards are being held in the Mansion House, Dublin on November 1st. I just found out today that Seomra Ranga had been nominated for an award in the “Best Education and Third Level Website” category ages ago, and I didn’t even know about it! The nominations were then whittled down to a Short [...]
Time to celebrate! Seomra Ranga is five years old today. I can’t really believe that! I still remember that summer of 2007 when I was putting the original site together, really using it as a way of organising for myself the resources I had put together and seeing if it had the bones of a [...]
Seomra Ranga has been on the web since 2007 and has developed enormously since then from very simple beginnings. It now has many followers throughout the country and indeed from abroad. Content on the web site changes so regularly that it may be difficult for teachers to keep up to date with new resources and [...]
Bhí Póstaeir Foghraíochta ó Seomra Ranga luaite in iris InTouch na míosa seo: “Tá cairteacha balla ar a bhfuil líostaí focal le patrúin éagsúla , m.sh. ú, í, ín, óir, aí, uí agus araile ar fáil le híoslódáil saor in aisce ón suíomh Seomra Ranga. Tá na cairteacha seo tarraingteach ildaite agus is fiú iad [...]
There’s been a great reaction to the Filmstrips Project since I published the first of these resources last week. I thought many people may not have liked them because they may look a bit dated in places, but I’ve received very positive feedback through this site, on the Twitter page and on the Facebook page. Many [...]
