Peg Money 03This resource is aimed at junior/middle pupils or SEN pupils at the beginning of work on money. It is based on the addition of coins up to 10c. Pupils should be able to recognise coins before doing this exercise. Laminate all of the pages in the resource and cut up into four separate cards. Get three pegs and write “True” and three more and write “False” on them. Alternately put a √ on three pegs and x on three pegs.

Pupils should add the coins in each section of each card and decide whether the answer in the middle is true or false. The pupil should then attach the correct peg to each section on the card. The same process should be repeated for each of the four cards.

This activity is especially suitable for pupils who may not be able to write answers but can count money. It is a way for them to demonstrate their understanding of the concept of money. It is also good for fine motor skills in the manipulation of the pegs onto the cards.
