Wait Tokens

by admin on 09/02/2014

Wait TokensMany of our pupils with special needs have difficulty taking turns or waiting – they can tend to favour immediate gratification. Therefore they will need to experience having to wait for something, even if this is for less than a minute. These Wait Tokens are aimed at helping the pupil to visually see that they have to wait a moment.

When the pupil makes a request from the teacher/SNA for something or to get their attention, the teacher/SNA can produce the Wait Token to demonstrate to the pupil that they will have to wait a moment to have their needs met. This will be a helpful learning experience for the pupil. The idea is that, over time, the pupil will not feel the need to get what they want immediately and that the tokens can be phased out and eventually be eliminated.

There are six tokens on an A4 page in this resource.
