AibítirAibítir is a new Irish alphabet book by Belfast-based printmaker René Mullin. It is a hard-backed book consisting of eighteen beautifully illustrated letters and words in a fresh celebration of Ireland’s unique alphabet.

Each letter is displayed on the left hand page and the illustration is on the right hand page. The prints are all full colour with a different background colour on each page. The illustrations are beautifully captured and child-friendly in nature. A couple of the words chosen to illustrate letters surprised me: D – Dearcán (acorn) and G – Gabhlóg (fork) – these are not the easiest words that spring to mind for young learners of Gaeilge.

This would be a nice book to have in the school library or the class library of younger pupils.

The book is published by Blackstaff Press and is priced at £5.99 Stg. You can find out more about the author on her website Placed

To win a copy of this book, leave a comment below with a word as Gaeilge beginning with D! I’ll pick a winner after 10pm this evening. [THIS COMPETITION IS NOW CLOSED]
