Many teachers will be involved with writing books with their pupils for the Write-A-Book Project which is organised through many of the Education Centres around the country. Sometimes, a lot of work can go into the story element of the book with the result that the design element of the book can be neglected. It is just as important that pupils put a lot of thought and effort into the design and overall look of their book.
The design of the book and the illustrations for it should be an integral part of the planning / writing process. Design and illustration also needs to go through the editing process. This Powerpoint resource is designed to get pupils thinking about the overall look of their book and how they are going to put it together. It looks at the Final Draft, the Text, the Illustrations, the Cover, Decorative Borders and much more. It includes lots of questions for pupils to consider when planning the design of their books.
