First-Then Boards are useful for pupils with special needs, especially pupils on the autism spectrum, to help them to focus on one particular task at a time. It helps them to realise that one activity must happen before another, usually a non-preferred task. The “First” box could be an activity that the teacher wants the pupil to complete, while the “Then” box could be an activity that the pupil really enjoys. For example, it could be: First complete the Matching Exercise, Then you can play an iPad game.
The download comes in six different colours and if possible should be laminated. The spots in the boxes are where Velcro should be attached, the other side of which is attached to various activities to place in the box.
