I’m sure that many of you are aware that providing a website with more than 3,000 free resources and articles does not come cheap. Some people may think that because the resources are free, that the site also comes free. But that is not the case. Because of the level of traffic into the site, I’m constantly trying to make sure that there is enough bandwidth to ensure that the site does not crash.
Costs for the site include paying for domain names, monthly hosting costs, payment for our sister site Nollaig Shona, subscriptions to other sites eg. Slideshare, which allows me to include very large presentations on the site, as well as many other incidental costs. As a rough guide, the site costs are similar to a small car loan, which may surprise many of you. Of course, none of this includes the endless hours spent creating resources, researching articles and doing technology reviews for the site.
I have had to finance the running of the site from my own resources at different intervals over the years. At the moment, the only thing that ensures that the site stays online is the placement of Google adverts on the site. When visitors to the site click on one of those adverts, I can earn a very small payment, but it all adds up.
I am now asking teachers and visitors to the site to encourage those companies/services in the education field to support this free online website by taking out an advert on the site. I have special advertising deals on the site for adverts booked before the end of September with discounts of up to 30% on the normal advertising fees. Without charging teachers for a subscription to the site, advertising is the only way that the site can pay its costs and survive into the future.
Again, if you know of companies who do business with schools, please encourage them to advertise with Seomra Ranga. They can contact me at infoATseomraranga.com for further details.
