World Autism Awareness Day

by admin on 02/04/2013

World Autism Awareness DayToday is World Autism Awareness Day (WAAD), an annual event to raise awareness among the public of Autism and to promote early detection and early intervention of the condition. On December 18, 2007, the United Nations General Assembly adopted resolution 62/139, tabled by the State of Qatar, which declared April 2 as World Autism Awareness Day (WAAD) in perpetuity.

Special events are held throughout the world to mark the day. WAAD celebrates the unique talents and skills of persons with autism and it is a day when individuals with autism are warmly welcomed and embraced in community events around the globe. In Ireland, a major Conference on Autism is being held this week with a long list of speakers giving presentations on all aspects of Autism.

Buildings around the world are lit in blue to shine a light on Autism for WAAD. As I can’t colour the whole website blue, I’ve made the text in this post blue to mark WAAD.
