Stiúcaí StiúgthaWalker Éireann, an imprint of Walker Books, has recently teamed up with Foras na Gaeilge to bring readers four of their best picture books created by some of Ireland’s foremost book makers, in Irish. The first of these is Stiúcaí Stiúgtha (The Ravenous Beast) by Niamh Sharkey. Stiúcaí Stiúgtha is ravenous. There is nobody hungrier than him. Or is there? It has been translated by well-known author and illustrator Gabriel Rosenstock.

Niamh Sharkey is an illustrator/author and is currently Laureate na n-Óg. She was the winner of the 1999 Bisto Award for the best Irish illustrator and the prestigious Books for Children Mother Goose Award for best new illustrator. On the Road with Mavis and Marge was published in 2010 and won the DAA Irish Book Award. I’m a Happy Hugglewug, published in 2006, has been developed into a CG animated series for pre-schoolers by Brown Bag Films and premiered on Disney Junior In February 2013, airing in over 150 countries worldwide.
