Someone recently sent me the link to this podcast interview with Enda Morris, an Irish primary school teacher from Roscommon now living and teaching in Melbourne, Australia. This article originally appeared in the Anzuk Teaching Agency Blog. It’s a fascinating insight into the life of a young Irish teacher and what motivated him to leave Ireland and seek teaching work in a country thousands of miles away. If any young teachers are considering a move to somewhere like Australia, Enda has this advice in the interview:

“Look I would say if you’re not happy and you’re struggling to get relief work or you’re just not certain that you’re going to make, have a life for the, as in just live for the next 6 to 12 months, I would say, give Australia a shot. I can speak from experience that there are an abundance of opportunities here in Melbourne. An abundance of CRT (casual relief teaching) work and if you prove yourself to be reliable, flexible then you can have a really good life out here and do something positive for the next 12 months instead of being stuck in a rut doing 2 to 3 days, 2 days work a week at home. And the lifestyle out here is pretty good”.
