Authors’ Circles should be an integral part of the Writing Process. It entails dividing pupils into groups of between four and six. Each pupil shares a paragraph/page/chapter of their piece of writing by reading it aloud to the other members of the Circle. This gives the pupil their first “audience” for their piece of writing. The other members of the Circle may then ask questions, make suggestions, give ideas to help the pupil improve their writing, so that when they come to the re-drafting stage of the writing process, they have some ideas on how to improve their story. This presentation gives hints/tips on how to get the best out of using Authors’ Circles in the classroom.
