It’s thanks again to Twitter (Mary Foskin AKA @m2thefizzle) that I became aware of this free ebook, Pressure Points on Irish Families, that is primarily aimed at families, but I’m sure many teachers would also welcome delving into. Written by Prof. Michael Fitzgerald and Maria Lawlor, the book aims to examine Irish children and adolescents whose minds may be under major stress. It explores why these children and adolescents are under stress from a personal, family, and wider societal perspective.
Prof. Fitzgerald is one of the leading authorities on Autism, Aspergers and ADHD in Ireland and it is this area that may be of particular interest to teachers. The authors of the book assert that:
“In Ireland there is a history of serious delays in identification of these conditions with serious if not catastrophic results …”
The chapter called, “Reading Problems, Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder, Autism, Emotional Problems, Eating Problems and Treatment” may be of interest to teachers in this regard. This free ebook can be downloaded from the book’s website here: Pressure Points on Irish Families
